Indonesian/Nat Bank customers in Indonesia have been rushing to withdraw deposits following moves to place banks' operations under the management of a government agency. Depositors are eager to remove savings despite repeated assurances from the government that their money will be guaranteed. Doubts over the guarantees have been fuelled by press reports of continuing uncertainty over the release of the latest installment of a 10 (b) billion U-S dollar International Monetary Fund loan package. The government and the I-M-F have said a letter of intent is expected within days, but no date has been set for payment of the latest 3 (b) billion U-S dollar installment. Crowds filled the branches of seven troubled banks in Indonesia after the government placed them under the management of a regulatory board. Worried customers crammed into branches in Jakarta and at least five other cities. The government announced on Saturday that it had suspended the operations of seven insolvent banks. Another seven with major liquidity problems would continue to trade, but only under the supervision of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency. The bank moves came as officials from Jakarta and the International Monetary Fund (I-M-F) put the final touches to new terms for a 43 (b) billion U-S dollar programme to bail out Indonesia in exchange for economic reform. An agreement on the programme, which has stalled twice previously because of disputes over the pace of reform, is expected to be signed this week. At one bank placed under supervision in the Indonesian capital, customers waited in line patiently to withdraw their savings. Some of them said they wanted to put their money where they could be confident it would be secure and easily accessible. SOUNDBITE: (Bahasa Indonesia) "We need certainty. We have moved our savings at different banks several times." SUPER CAPTION: Herry Setiady, worker Customers said they wanted to withdraw their savings despite repeated assurances by Indonesia's finance minister that all their money would be guaranteed by the government. SOUNDBITE: (Bahasa Indonesia) "We are still confident because the government is guaranteeing our money, but still we wasted our time (the other time we moved our money from another bank to this one)." SUPER CAPTION: Budi Tjahyono, businessman Staff at affected banks made repeated assurances to customers that they would be able to get their money. Others handed out dozens of withdrawal forms. Many customers complained that automatic teller machines had run out of cash early in the day. Police were deployed to some banks as a crowd control precaution. Signs were placed in some bank windows stating that all deposits were government-guaranteed. Deposits from the closed banks have been transferred to Bank Negara Indonesia, the country's largest state-owned bank, and have also been placed under a government guarantee. SOUNDBITE: (Bahasa Indonesia) "Now, it's better for us to save money at a government-run bank instead of a private bank. Sometimes you need money quickly. We don't want to face a difficult situation because we can't get money from the troubled private banks." SUPER CAPTION: Mariyah Luthfi, housewife The banking industry's precarious state is viewed as a major contributing factor to Indonesia's troubled economy. The crisis has resulted in the currency's collapse, soaring inflation and mass unemployment. SOUNDBITE: (Bahasa Indonesia) VOX POP: "Jakarta is a small city and it is only getting smaller (because of the bus lane). We need highways and underground transportation. Maybe those will be successful." 20. SOUNDBITE: (Bahasa Indonesia) VOX POP: "Unless the roads are widened and the number of cars reduced, this scheme will not be successful. It will only make traffic worse." 21. SOUNDBITE: (English) VOX POP: "I don't think it (bus lane) will solve it, (traffic problem) but I think it will help it. (Q:How do you think it will help it?) We got one clear lane that moves buses and people. I think that's good." 22. Various shots of buses operating in the bus lane, next to massive traffic jam on the street STORYLINE: Commuting across the chaotic sprawl that is Indonesia's capital Jakarta can be an epic battle. Traffic jams are never-ending; cars, buses and motorbikes spew out thick smoke and pedestrians can only gasp for breath. Hoping to ease the problem, the city has just opened an ambitious bus lane system, which offered free rides for the first two weeks to entice Jakartans to try the new buses. Hundreds of people showed up at almost all the bus shelters. Private cars and taxis are banned from the outer lanes of the north and south bound sections of a 13-kilometer (miles) long thoroughfare that cuts through the center of Jakarta. A fleet of fifty-six specially built and air-conditioned buses plies the tracks, which have already been partitioned off by concrete dividers. Twenty new bustops in the central median are built, along with more than 30 foot bridges for passengers to reach the pavement. To mark the launching of the bus lane, the city governor Sutiyoso showed up at one of the bus shelter and took the free ride. Later in a press conference, Sutiyoso told a crowd of journalists and special guests that he hoped people would abandon their private cars and get on these comfortable buses. Jakarta has some of the worst traffic in Asia, but it doesn't just cause inconvenience. Earlier this month, the World Bank singled it out as a major cause of Indonesia's sluggish economic growth. Traffic pollution triggers respiratory illnesses. Surveys show Jakarta's children have dangerous levels of lead in their blood due to exhaust fumes. Whereas as neighboring Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur all have gleaming underground or over ground rail systems, Jakarta which was hit hardest by the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis, has been unable to afford such a network. properly. there are now fewer lanes for cars. Mercedes race winner Nico Rosberg will have found his name top of the guest list for the post-race poolside soiree at the Fairmont Hotel, which overlooks the circuit's famous hairpin. The club, presided over by former Benetton and Renault team boss Flavio Briatore, is designed to serve up a neat cocktail of all that the Monte Carlo race weekend has come to represent -- racing, glamor, hedonism and wealth. "This is a dream for lots of people for one night," Briatore told CNN. "The moment you're in, you are a VIP for us. "It makes no difference if you're the top actor in America or wherever, for us everybody is the same." Briatore's Billionaire Life brand is selling a luxury lifestyle and the historic race around the principality -- a playground for the rich and famous -- is the perfect backdrop for some of the world's estimated 1,645 billionaires to blow off steam. "Billionaires and the ultra-wealthy cross the globe like migratory birds and Monaco is one of the key events," David Friedman, president of wealth intelligence firm Wealth-X, explained to CNN. "There is a cultural template in racing. If you contrast Formula One with Nascar for example, where the origins really came from running moonshine across State lines during the Prohibition, the DNA of F1 is so different." Briatore agreed: "Everybody wants to be at this race from the sponsors to the celebrities. The Billionaire Club is the center of this event, this party and all this celebrity. "All the drivers are there Sunday night," he promised. After attending Sunday's royal grand prix gala dinner, hosted by Monaco's Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, Rosberg, who was raised in Monaco, might have opted to head home to his Monte Carlo pad for an early night. For others the midnight to dawn party at the Billionaire Grand Prix Gala kept on swinging. Read: Nico Rosberg wins Monaco Grand Prix The evening promised world-famous DJs, special performances and inestimable bottles of champagne to quench the thirst of revelers. The Billionaire Club, which stages a four-day fiesta in Monaco, aims to emulate a billionaire lifestyle, but that does not mean you have to have billions in the bank to get in. "If he's a billionaire but he's a billionaire that spends no money -- we are not interested!" Briatore quipped. "The name was a kind of provocative name so everyone can remember. You don't need to be a billionaire. "It is not a rip-off, it's the same price as everything else in Monaco, nothing dramatic." The club may not be for billionaires per se but it does have a minimum spending policy. The price starts from $4,000 for a standard table. The majority of tables at the Monaco event are reserved for Billionaire Club members and returning guests with 10% held back for what Briatore describes as "last-minute friends." billionaire lifestyle, billionaire people, billionaire list 2014, list of billionaires in the world, 2014 billionaires list, millionaire lifestyle, billionaires lifestyle, billionaire lifestyle youtube, rich lifestyle, lifestyles of the rich and famous, lifestyle of the rich and famous, rich people lifestyle, lifestyles of the rich and famous lyrics, lifestyle of the rich, billionaire list, young billionaires,
